Alert message sent 13/10/2021 14:24:00

Information sent on behalf of Durham Constabulary

A female was prosecuted for offences relating to an incident that took place on 13/07/2021 in the Sherburn Hill / Littletown area.
On that day 3 rottweiler dogs were running out of control for a period of time after which they were confined to a residential garden and subsequently seized by Durham Police. Whilst they were out of control, they inflicted injuries on two dogs and their owners. One of the dogs sadly died from its injuries which caused significant distress for that family.
The female appeared at Durham Crown Court on 12/10/2021 and was sentenced to 14 months imprisonment and disqualified from keeping a dog for 10 years. The Court also ordered the destruction of the two remaining rottweilers as one had died as a result of an unrelated illness.
It is recognised that dog ownership can provide people with a huge amount of pleasure, but there can be serious consequences when they are not kept under control.
